A Star is Born

Today is January 6th, 2017. Epiphany – an extraordinary “Ah Ha” moment. Little did I notice when my oldest son was born on January 6, 1968 at Kadena AFB Okinawa. We lived in a second floor apartment off base near Naha AFB. When we brought our son home, my wife got out of the car and went upstairs to the apartment. I got my son out of the car. I looked up and it was a crystal clear night with a million stars shinning brightly in the night. I lifted my son high above my head and offered him to the creator of life more abundant. I will give back to you what you gave to me this night! I carried a vocation card in my wallet for 27 years remembering my son and the dream of that night. God is tricky – he called my son to be the most independent rascal I have ever known. A gift to the world and willing to walk on his own two feet. And to me he gave a calling that floated on the wings form the spirit of that night and continues this day. In 1995 I no longer needed to carry that card any longer for I had been captured. Yep He sets us up long before we begin to detect who we were called to be! I wish all an “Ah Ha” gift to all – – ponder life’s precious gifts and the creative trickery of a God who reveals his spirit in the breath of the wind upon ones cheek!

God’s Timing is Perfect

God has perfect timing. Sometimes we humans just can’t seem to get it. In history we humans have encountered all sorts of tragic events and division often from within. Perhaps in God’s plan founded upon free will, we have to learn the lesson God teaches again every generation because the young must learn these lessons for themselves. We humans turn away from God and into ourselves and things get worse. We turn back to God and things get better. Perhaps God gave us president Obama to wake up some and Trump to wake up others. Do you suppose he wants us ALL to wake up and answer the most basic question – are we still capable of loving one another? And who among us is willing to pay the cost Jesus Christ knew he had to pay to teach a hard hearted and stiffed necked people? There is always hope and light if we learn to look in the right place! Love one another as I loved you!

Golf? Try Something New

I was informed my 2nd grand daughter is going to play golf for her high school. As far as I know she has never held a real golf club! Miniature club for sure. Wow – proof she is open and willing to take the risk to step into an unknown world and try something new. How many of us are frozen and have boxed ourselves into a small world in which we confine ourselves?

It’s like we can put God in a box and then think he will stay put! I have tried that and before I can close the lid God escapes. How many of us are really open to taking a risk and willing to take a step outside the box we find ourselves confined?

Want to find the limiting spiritual factor that confines us? Look into a mirror and then ask the only spirit that can save us from the image confined in the mirror – Help!!!. Help me overcome my fear!

Word Stumbling

Forgive me Father. When I type/write for some reason I only see the message and am not able to see the mistakes in the words. I suspect when God looks at us, he sees the intent of the message in our hearts and just has to forgive the obvious mistakes found in our words. Take a risk and tell someone you love them even if they stumble all over their words!

Dear Snowflakes

A father who loves his children knows that from time to time he must disciple his children. A child knows discipline is love. It takes real wisdom and courage to be a father. He knows he will upset the apple cart and possibly create a significant emotional event. But a wise father knows there are no short cuts if he wants his children to grow up to be able to use fully their god given talents and a critical thinking capacity.

In our modern world we have many old and young children who are being described as snow flakes. They are each uniquely beautiful and they even sparkle like a stars. Yet a wise father knows they are trapped and have greater potential yet. For they are created of a special kind of fluid with the potential to create new life. He knows tough they are beautiful as a snowflake they could remain remain frozen, inflexible and incapable of creating new life outside themselves. Snowflakes are locked into a selfie state and must die before they can create new life!

A wise father knows he must create a kind of fire that will melt a snowflake thereby restoring it to it’s natural fluid state. Water the wellspring of new life when the breath of God passes over. A father who loves his children knows the action required may necessarily create a significant emotional event for the snowflake. After all he must find a way to generate the necessary internal heat and then stand back having faith the God who created humanity works wonders in the midst of a fire.

Everyone gets a Gift

God gives everyone gifts. Sometimes it takes years to figure out the gifts we are given. God gave me a gift to let go! I didn’t know I had this gift until I was in the midst of discerning God’s call to speak his message that I didn’t know I already knew. God had blessed me with a gift of becoming a rain maker. Funny the term rain. It’s water the well spring of new life. In this case it was money, jobs, funding and a benefit to the work I did. I birthed, developed and created an idea, a concept using the analytical skill of observation. An art form if you will of being able to see what others can not see.

When one births such a baby, one becomes attached to that baby – after all it was my baby. But God wanted me to learn and do something else. So he gave me a test. Will you give up your baby to serve a greater baby? Well that’s not how I saw it then. Man I didn’t want to give up that baby!

But God knew something about me I didn’t know. I was riding on an airplane back from Washington D.C. and tears began to roll down my cheeks. I now know my spirit was giving up that baby and the tears were telling me to trust that I was being sent to bring good news that new life is always possible for those willing to open their eyes and ears to see the spirit working in our world.

So what baby are you holding onto? Can you let that baby go?

I let that baby go and a few years later that baby came back to me seeking new life!

Dumbbell – Get It?

Saturday I served at Funeral for a friend who passed away unexpectedly. He had three sons. Good looking kids. Caused me to remember I had taught the oldest during preparation for Confirmation (15-16 years old) a long time ago. Confirmation is a Sacrament of initiation in the Catholic Church.

I brought to class a 50 lb dumbbell from the local gym. How can I
get these kids to think about what Confirmation is preparing them for?

Note a dumbbell from the local gym comes from the real world. It has a handle that has been soiled with real flesh, skin, sweat and even blood. I asked these kids if they knew what it was used for?

At first silence and finally someone said to build muscle and strength. I asked if anyone willing to demonstrate how to lift it and curl it. To my surprise a young lady bravely stepped forward and grabbed the dumbbell. Promptly it dropped to the floor with a crash. Her willingness to step forward generated silence among many.

It was then, that my friends oldest son quietly stepped forward and to my amazement not only lifted the weight but property curled that 50 lb. dumbbell. Wow I thought, I could curl it but I needed to warm up first.

Next I asked them how long it would take before they could do what this young man did? Well – brave heart – so how does one go about preparing oneself to curl a 50 lb dumbbell?

Consistent repetition, starting at an initial weight one can easily handle and then followed by more consistency gradual working ones way up gradually until ones muscles replicate the action successfully.

But wait a minute – aren’t we talking about Confirmation? Could it be the muscles we are talking about are spiritual. Yet they are no different than the muscles attached to our bodies that we can see. Like so many things in life they built upon the same founding principle == “use it or lose it”.

It we don’t use our muscles they atrophy and we lose strength.

Our spiritual muscles are no different. If we want our spiritual muscles to grow we must make a decision to consistently enter the spiritual gym and begin with lifting spiritual weights that at first can be easily handled. Life is about carrying a cross and sometimes we are called to carry the cross of someone we love. I had an aunt who carried a heavy burden but she was able to lay down her cross so she could pick up the cross of her son who came home to die of AIDS – the symbolic handle of the handle on a dumbbell.

If we don’t use our muscles they atrophy. If we don’t use our mind it will atrophy. If we don’t use our spirit it will atrophy. Then when the day comes and we desperately need strength to handle the weight of the cross that surely will find its way into our life we will have a spirit to call upon that can prevent us from crashing to the floor.

Tooth Fairy

Yesterday I had a tooth extracted – fancy word for yanked out!!!!!! Lifting dumbbells gives one the strength to pull hard. Big Boys don’t cry right!! I was told to take some pain medication before the pain took hold. So I did! It made me talk and think goofy! Ask my wife. Here’s some food for thought!

Well I didn’t run to a special safe zone reserved for the alleged sensitive feminist nature of men – are you kidding me? Fear of a micro aggression no one can see! Just who is that self declared wise man who defines a micro aggression? My fathers wood shed is still available where real lessons in life can be taught!

Just what spirit has invaded our land that seeks to dismantle the nature of real men and women willing to stand up for the truth? And just how silly is it to admit one is afraid of a micro aggression that apparently is so small it can not be seen in a world where real evil is cutting the heads off of real courageous men and real woman willing to die for their faith in a God who came to testify to the truth to a world full of people so fearful of losing power they had to invent a micro aggression as an excuse to continue to kill His spirit today!

Yep truth is, even Big boys cry over real evil and stand in awe of real men and real women who have the courage to give ones life that we all might be free to hear the truth!

Has America the land of the free and the brave forgotten Jesus told the world the truth will set us free? Goofy right!

Oh Lord

Oh Lord, set me on your knee.

Oh Lord, set me on your knee.

Though I am tired and worn it’s on your knee I’m reborn.

Oh Lord, set me on your knee.

It’s on your knee, your stories are told which give me courage and make me bold, so I can clearly see when I am on your knee you set me free.

Oh Lord, set me on your knee.

The Forbidden Line

The “Line” between Church and Sate!  Who said we couldn’t walk on that line?

WWJD = What would Jesus Do?

I suppose Jesus would say – by whose authority does the Church have power and authority?  And by whose power and authority does the state have it’s?

Hey Dad!  Look at these folks walking in fear of stepping on the line of Truth!

Does anyone see a material barrier or is constructed of air?

While Jesus walked the face of the earth he walked all over that line like he owned it!

And how did the world treat him?  Better One Man should die than for the Truth be left standing!  Come follow me said the Lord!

Walking the Line — Are we ready to follow?
